When you walk through the streets you just feel overwhelmed by how many people died in the wide open streets of Pompeii just because they did not heed the early warnings to flee.
What To See At The Ruins Of Pompeii Italy
Exploring the ancient ruins of Pompeii Italy you see the destruction of Mt Vesuvius’ massive eruption thousands of years ago. This ancient Roman city was entirely destroyed by the sudden eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD. It is the largest archaeological site in Europe.
As you meander through the streets you are able to walk through the mansions of the wealthy people of the city. It’s unbelievable, you can still see the artwork on the walls, walk through their gardens and also check out their sleeping quarters.
The who’s who of all wealthy Romans lived here and because it was a port town also many sailors lived in the city. This meant that a lot of prostitution was going on.
There are even clues and markers on the street to direct the young men to the ladies of the night. From the looks of the paintings and frescoes on the walls, things were very erotic in the town of Pompeii.
So, traveling to Pompeii in conclusion was incredible. Seeing this two-thousand-year-old town with Mt Vesuvius in the backdrop is a spectacular trip and well worth visiting.
