Looking for places to hike in Southern California? Why not try hiking to the Cave of Munits at the El Scorpion Park in West Hills California. The hike is pretty tame, to begin with. However, if you go in the summer month it is hot as heck and there isn’t much coverage on the trail.
PLACES TO HIKE: CAVE OF MUNITS
The first real obstacle is when the elevation changes and the trail get’s really steep and the rocks are very loose. So you will need proper shoes for this trail like good hiking boots. Once you get up this loose steep hill the adventure really begins. There is some climbing involved to actually get into the cave.
So if you have never done any type of rock climbing please bring a partner who has because it can get quite dangerous. I am so happy I wasn’t by myself.
It was very tricky finding my footing at some points of the climb and my shoes really sucked. There was no grip so I was at the mercy of gravity that almost won if I didn’t have a supporting hand going up.
Yet with all of that, I made it. Thank God!!
It is truly amazing once you get inside the cave and it was definitely worth the climb. Will I go again? Maybe not.
I’m not a big rock climber and this is probably child’s play to most climbers and besides I have no upper body strength. However, if I go back with the proper shoes and more climbing experience it could be worth it because the views are outstanding. When: All Season
